Costaripa
Moniga del Garda, Lombardia, Italy

In the heart of Valtènesi, in Moniga del Garda, Costaripa rises from the landscape with an architecture built to echo local forms, colors, and natural materials. Its story begins in 1928, when Mattia Vezzola started producing and selling wine, then bought his first vineyards in the “Costa” locality in 1936, the very ground where the winery would later take shape. In 1938 the first rosé was made with the submerged-cap method, and the next generation, Bruno Vezzola and Franco Vezzola, pushed quality forward through renewed grape-growing, experiments with rootstocks, and rigorous pruning traditions traced to Bordeaux, even working the “Costa,” “Magher,” and “Cap Grant” vineyards with the help of Masker, their Avellinese breed horse. In 1972, Mattia Vezzola returned from oenology studies in Conegliano and, after a formative trip to Champagne, pursued Classic Method sparkling production that pairs the complexity of long aging with grapes from Lake Garda. Guided by a philosophy that puts new technology at the service of tradition and quality, the winery also ties its identity to time, place, and people, honoring Pompeo Gherardo Molmenti, supporting a humanitarian effort linked to Christiaan Barnard and Princess Diana, completing its landscape-integrated cellar in 2004, and later refining its image through designer Giacomo Bersanetti while welcoming visitors for guided tastings.
