Crociani
Montepulciano, Toscana, Italy

At Crociani in Montepulciano, Susanna Crociani tells a family story that begins with Arnaldo Crociani, who liked to say he was “born behind a barrel,” and whose stubborn, forward-looking passion turned youthful dreams into a life of wine. After a career in the Italian music industry, Susanna returned home to follow in the footsteps of her father and work alongside her brother Giorgio Crociani, preserving memories like treasured library bottles and a single 1964 bottle dedicated to “Susi” that made her path feel inevitable. Rooted in 10 hectares of vineyards in the heart of the Vino Nobile area, the estate leans on the traditional grapes of the terroir while keeping an eye on the wider world. In the cellar, vinification happens in a newer, brighter space that Susanna created by purchasing part of an early-1900s tobacco factory, pairing hands-on care with more modern technologies in both vineyard and winery. The wines then rest in 15 and 20 hectolitre Slavonian oak barrels inside the family’s fourteenth-century cellars in the historic centre, where visits and tastings unfold under a philosophy that treats heritage, courage, passion, and love as the guiding thread.
