On a ridge road in the High Chianti Classico countryside, between Florence and Siena and straddling the townships of Barberino Val d’Elsa and Castellina in Chianti, Fattoria La Ripa tells a long story that reaches back to the 1400s, when Antonio Maria di Noldo Gherardini, father of Monna Lisa, held the estate along routes that connected the valley roads to the pilgrim way of the Via Francigena. Since 1940 it has been a property of S.A. Santa Brigida, producing on the land and bottling under its own label since 1968, with vineyards that sit about 400 meters above sea level and face south, shaping a house style built on site character and consistency. Its philosophy is grounded in strict organic farming, applied from 2001 and certified from 2006, letting the farm’s vineyards, olive groves, grains, and forests work together as one living landscape while the cellar focuses on careful handling and patient maturation, including oak when suited to the wine. Today the estate is guided by Managing Director Sandro Caramelli and Technical Co-Director Niccolò Caramelli, with Paola Cambioni helping welcome visitors who come to see the cellars and taste the place where history and craft still meet.
