Barone di Serramarrocco
Erice, Sicilia, Italy

Born from a Sicilian feudal story, the estate traces its name to Don Juan Antonio Marrocco y Orioles, who in 1624 was raised to the title of Baron by Philip IV of Spain after sheltering and aiding people during the plague that swept Sicily. Centuries later, Marco di Serramarrocco returned from Lloyd's of London in 2001 to revive the family lands in the Province of Trapani, where the vineyards sit on breezy hills below Mount Erice along the Erice DOC wine route, with views stretching toward the Egadi Islands and the ancient site of Segesta. Guided by a “less is more” mindset, the estate pursues high density planting and low yields across its named crus, tending soils with organic compost, minimizing interventions in the field, and harvesting by hand to keep the fruit intact and expressive. In the cellar, grapes are softly destemmed and vinified plot by plot in steel with long macerations at controlled temperatures, strengthened by délestage for gentle oxygenation, then refined in Tronçais Forest oak to encourage slow micro oxygenation, with filtration kept optional and malolactic fermentation managed in temperature conditioned tanks.
